Year 1 - Why the SHPS got involved

Beatrice Zephyr contacted the SHPS trying to obtain grant money offered in the revitalization project of the SimNation. The project focused on dying towns with a unique history and culture.

The main criteria of the grants are:
  • The neighborhood must currently have no social services and must rely on other townships and cities to supply basic needs.
  • The population must be a critically low point
  • The commerce must be in need of aid
  • The history of the neighborhood must be worth preserving
  • The culture of the area must be unique
Even as the meeting to determine if the islands met the criteria of the grant, 4 of 9 remaining residents were killed in a plane/boat crash, bringing the population to 5 sims. Only one sim had any Native Islander heritage, Derek Zephyr, though the remaining sims did have deep historic roots to the Island. The Zephyrs could trace their lineage back to the crashed servant ship heading to the mainland in 1797. The Avalons cited their liniage directly to the crew of Anabelle Greenbard who made their home here in 1836. Derek Zephyr's father, Daniel, (presumed last name of Steepback) was the only known full Native Islander from the tribe that inhabited this islands before thethe 1700's.

Criteria for Peacock Islands - Exceeds Critieria in all categories
  • Currently there are no services to the Islands. There is a University but that also relies heavily on mainland tuitions and grants. However there is no fire, medical, educational, child welfare, or security services on the island.
  • The full time residents now equal 5 sims: 2 adults, 3 teens (one of whom is living alone)
  • At the first review of the Islands only one store was open, the Greenworks Grocer and Florist and due to the tragic circumstances with the family that owns the building it has mostly remained closed.
  • The history of the Islands dates back to ancient aboriginal tribes though to originate in Egypt, includes colonial trade routes, pirates
  • The Islands culture boasts a unique set of ideas expressing themselves in painting, pottery, sculpture, and dance. Even food, flowers and and toys have a distict appeal as the former tourist trade revealed.
SHPS accepted Peacock Islands into their program and was able to grant $10,000 each to 2 businesses, both of which bring to life the exciting artistic culture of the islands:
  • Craftables - owned by Beatrice Zephyr
  • Sunrise Bakery and Art studio - owned by Charles Zephyr
SHPS has organized with various mainland communities to provide basic services until such time as the population and wealth of the Islands can maintain these services on their own.

  2. M. McMillan, Thank you for your interest in our little slice of life.

The Islands are a historically important chain, the history going back many years. The largest main island was originally called Evansville. The other smaller islands were known as Kiwi Island, Paradise Island, and Ellis Island.

Evansville was discovered on Ambers Journey and documented on ModtheSims here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=197002.

The smaller Islands were also discovered on Ambers Journey and those islands are documented here: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=218435
